    Odds and Ends

Ever have scraps of fabric, yarn, ribbon? I do all the time and I hate wasting things so I save it all. It's hard to figure out what to do with it all. You can only have so many scrap blankets, pillows, etc. I thought about it and came up with some ideas to use such scraps.

*use extra yarn to make crochet or knit granny squares. Sew the squares together into a scarf-like object. Roll the "scarf" from the short end into a cylindar. Put this cylindar into a coffee can or tin can, depending on how it fits. You can also wrap a piece of cardboard or stiff felt around it. This part is to stabalize the object so anything that can do so will do. Now you have a cylindar with a sort of spiral inside. You can put crochet hooks and knitting needles into the spaces and now you have a neat holder to organize everything right on your desk!

*Use small scraps of fabric to make amulet bags to wear around your neck. You can put healing herbs in it for a sort of medicine bag, a stone that brings you luck, a picture of someone you love, there are so many possibilities! Also, you can use extra yarn or ribbon to make the cord. Have fun decorating the cloth scraps and make it personal.

*Use scraps of yarn and ribbon to make pretty cords for your spells. Pay attention to the colors you use to make exciting power combinations. You can also attatch pendants or stones to the ends to make pretty charms or keychains.

*I am a big potion buff. I love to mix potions in my kitchen and I take pride in making beaded potion bottles. I always use glass because the glue sticks to it best. However, glass is not the easiest to travel with. The extra scraps of wool yarn I have are perfect for making small potion bags. Wool is very soft and strong so it works great. It's alot of fun to mix colors and textures.

Knitting (or crocheting) can be very soothing, even without a project or pattern in mind. Oftentimes, I just pick up my needles (or a hook) and just start stitching. The random objects that come out of these sessions were sitting around my house for ages. I decided I had to make them into SOMETHING.

*I used the smaller ones to make bags for traveling to circles and other such gatherings. The different pieces are great for making bags of all sizes and pockets too. For these, I take lengths of white cloth and stitch flowers and vines for the straps.

*I made a few of the larger pieces into table centerpieces by crocheting pretty edges around the whole thing.

*I also found that I had several pieces from the same yarn. I used those to make a giant shoping bag because I never use the plastic ones. :)

Now go look at your scraps and see what you can make! Don't forget to have fun. ;)

    Love and light,

Very creative hun! It's always good to make something from what some may deem as nothing.

You've given me some inspiration for the tons of scraps I have in bags in my studio. I can never bear to throw them away but I really have to do something with them, I could be crafting for a year there is so much up there.

Thank you for sharing with us.
